St Paul’s House, Office Renovation, London

Ben Adams Architects are a proud new addition to our collaborators list. They are a tightly formed award winning practice, recognised by @ArchitectsJrnal as one of the ’40 under 40′ best UK architects.

Our first commission for them was the newly renovated St Paul’s House in the centre of London’s business district. The subtle exterior upgrade and roof extension integrate sensitively with the existing building. This lends an air of sophistication to a previously nondescript structure.

Beauty hides in the small details, we were very impressed with the finishing of the project, from refined hand rails, bespoke wall signage to the low profile glazing joins. Enough technicalities, it’s all about dramatic lighting for us photographers, and mother nature was on our side!

We look forward to a productive relationship.

New twist to Hotel Stureplan, Stockholm, Sweden

Sweden has delivered a wealth of exciting design projects recently for HC Photography to get our teeth into. Hotel Stureplan, located in the heart of Stockholm is one such example.

Since the 1980’s there has been an injection of funding for renovations in the Stureplan district. This has led to an influx of corporate HQ’s, exclusive fashion boutiques and award winning restaurants all creating a playground for young business executives’s and the affluent upper classes of Stockholm.

So after a hard day of work and a long evening of partying a suitably salubrious hotel is required. Link Arkitektur Sweden have completed the elegant renovation of two adjoining 19th century buildings. The integration of contemporary features blended with the traditional history and aesthetic of the the hotel was critical. We feel image 2 represents this philosophy beautifully.

Swedbank HQ, Stockholm, Sweden

3XNs design for Swedbank’s new international headquarters is now taking shape. Hundven-Clements Photography were on site recently to capture some unusual night shots during the construction stages.

3XN describes the project as ‘an innovative interpretation of the core values of the Swedbank organization; Openness, Simplicity and Care – all materialized in a modern office space with emphasis on transparency, Scandinavian simplicity and a dynamic social environment. The building’s folded triple-V structure breaks up the volume, thus creating a welcoming democratic environment for Swedbank’s employees and visitors’.

We look forward to seeing the completed project brought to life with lots of young scandinavians working hard.

Contemporary architecture in Barcelona, night viewing.

As the light dims and the tourists run for the safety of their hotel rooms we packed our kit and headed on to the streets of Barcelona. Probably the easiest method a photographer can adopt to say good bye to their beloved cameras…but sometimes you’ve just got to get on with the job.

We hope the results speak for themselves, we still can’t resist the draw of the night!

Architecture and the female form in Barcelona

We have been experimenting with some new ideas combing the isolated female form, juxtaposed against iconic architecture at night. The first images below were produced in Barcelona at the Diagonal Zero Zero Tower designed by EMBA and the Forum building by Herzog & de Meuron.

Marineholmen, Bergen, Norway by GC Rieber

A new development at Marineholmen, opened in Bergen this summer and we have been onsite to investigate. On a sunny day there’s no better place to study or work, that is if you can drag yourself away from the fjord views and exciting interactive landscape designed by Smedsvig Landskapsarkitekter AS.

Encompassing the BI Business University, a range of innovative businesses with particular specialism in the fields of marine biology, biotechnology, climate and environmental research, ICT and petroleum have arrived. It was the young Fridtjof Nansen (of Polar Expedition fame) who decided Norway needed a biological research station in the late 1800’s. This idea has developed into a centre of excellence.

The project involves a range of eclectic designers including Architects: Bjerk & Bjørge, Interior Architects: Soldesign, Consultants: Sweco & Multiconsult

Surrey University by Scott Brownrigg

Scott Brownrigg have recently decided to proceed with a photographic collaboration of their latest building. The first exciting project on their list to explore is the University of Surrey Student Residence and Reception Building. They were very keen to document the building in use during the summer months while the open plan elements are maximised.

Scottbrownrigg commented on the building:

”Responding to its location and context, this distinctive modern landmark incorporates a dynamic curved sweep of rippled zinc cladding which wraps around the feature stair and links to the angled canopy beyond”.

The new project sits nestled in the leafy campus grounds, thriving with international energy, we rarely met an British student! The building is an exciting amalgamation of styles, blending traditional brickwork (to maintain campus design integration and cost efficiency) with contemporary zinc cladding. Student diggs have come a long way since we were at University! We especially enjoyed the playful graphics on the wall and the fact that on-suite sinks have been reinforced to withstand the weight of a young amorous lady!

New Marzorati Ronchetti book: 90 Years for design

As exciting as the super fast world of social media and electronic publishing is, it is always nice to have a solid well made book in your hands. This morning parcel force delivered our latest collaboration in the form of a book from Milan, Italy author Matteo Vercelloni and published by Mondadori Electa. We worked closely with Marzorati Ronchetti in late 2011 to photograph a range of their stunning London projects documented in the book. This is a link to our original feature post shoot.

Founded in 1922 in Cantú, Italy, Marzorati Ronchetti are today the leading company in the field of specialist metal work design and construction. Each project is conceived as a one off piece for some of the greatest artists and architects of our time, such as Ron Arad, Lord Norman Foster, John Pawson, Italo Rota and many others.

Here is a selection of the pages we photographed:

Steinboligen, Finse, Norway by Alliance Arkitekter and Snøhetta

While it’s grey and depressing outside it’s a good time to go through the archive and pick out some exciting projects that never quite got the attention they deserved.

Steinboligen located in the mountains of Finse, Norway, sits directly next to the railway which peaks at 1222m above sea level. It is an unusual place to find a contemporary architectural structure. @HundvenClements have been here more than once before and nearly won an award for our efforts with a picture of Hardanger Jøkulen Hut in the Photography Masters Cup.

The building was designed by Alliance Arkitekter with Snøhetta collaborating on a range of the interior details. A fascinating renovation of an existing stone building. Originally it was a semi-detached railway guards cottage designed by architect Paul Armin Due, but over 60 years, it was partially damaged by fire, an imposing stone wall remained. In 2007 the building was taken over completely by the couple Randi Punsvik and Trygve K. Norman and Peter Hagelund who saw the opportunity to realize their dreams…here are the results.
