Doncaster is not renowned for it’s iconic architecture (St George’s Church is an exception) but the newly developed Doncaster Civic Quarter is providing some gems.
We were recently commissioned by Cartwright Pickard Architects to photograph one of their most ambitious projects to date. The Doncaster Civic Office BREEAM Excellent workplace is designed for 1,200 staff. The council chamber adds a touch of drama in an area of the town that is surrounded by oppressive 60s / 70s concrete structures. Clad with coloured glazed terracotta baguettes and a large glazed corner window overlooking the new square it allows passers by to observe democracy in action.
It will be exciting to see how this new injection of energy helps to regenerate the town.
This is a familiar image to our long term followers. It won the International Architectural Awards back in 2008 and is still one of our favourites. The picture is of the Jewish Holocaust Memorial Blocks in Berlin, Peter Eisenman Architects. Shot at night time it was approximately a 30 minute exposure where all of the light in the foreground was generated by multiple flashes. Shot on transparency film as well so no easy feat!

We can’t stay away from Finse for long. There is a magical mountain plateau nestled on the railway between Oslo and Bergen at 1222m above sea level, we are enticed back every year.
What’s so exciting about Finse you might ask? Peace, tranquility, incredible lighting, dramatic scenery and the constantly changing weather are a few of the reasons we are drawn back. As city life begins to feel like hard work, there’s no better place to recharge the batteries, stick some skis on and grab the camera! Just don’t forget your thermals as temperatures drop to around -20C in January!
The days are getting a little longer, but those moody skies are still ever present. We hope you enjoy this image taken of the Oil Directorate in Stavanger, Norway for Link Arkitektur. Click on the link at the bottom of this page to download the high res version to print out for your office wall.

Dramatic exterior lighting on this new business district development in the north of Stockholm has further enhanced Link Arkitektur’s unusual design. We especially like the protruding meeting rooms.

Primary colours seem to be dominating our commission schedule recently.
This new social housing development by Cartwright Pickard Architects certainly demands attention from any passers by. Nestled next to Tottenham Hale underground station in the new Hale Village, it stands shoulder to shoulder with a diverse range of architectural flavours enlivening this otherwise overlooked corner of our city.
It was a changeable day as the winter winds delivered patches of glorious blue sky interspersed with ominous dark clouds and rain, this all added to the drama of the scene.

This is our latest Architecture Calendar, showcasing a range of exciting projects we have photographed. It contains famous architects like Herzog & de Meuron and Antoni Gaudi to more intimate design’s by artist’s such as Tom Price. Who says science labs are boring dull spaces?
Here we photographed this vibrant fertility clinic and laboratory, bringing a degree of calmness and order to the images was the main challenge. Carefully integrating people to bring the spaces alive was a key interest from the designers Link Arkitektur Sweden, this involved some smooth talking to convince the shy scientists to help out. The project is located in Stockholm, Sweden.
If you’ve got some unusual healthcare space images please send us a link we’d love to see what’s out there.

On our way to shoot St Paul’s House we couldn’t resist grabbing a quick snap of the old lady, complete with London bus and taxi. No photoshop involved, sometimes the sun does shine in London!
