The Oslo Bjørvika district is currently undergoing a dramatic transformation. The Operakvatalet (as seen on the horizon in the first image) has been developed in the centre of Oslo city, located between the main railway line and the fjord. As a new exciting city district is created, the demand for improved access and an appropriately exciting bridge design is required. This task fell on the joint shoulders of L2 Arkitekter AS and Rambøll Norge AS.
We waited for some good weather to arrive in Oslo before heading over after L2 commissioned us to photograph the project. A glorious summers day rewarded us with some engaging shots exploring this fantastic new addition to the skyline.
Sometimes elegant designs deserve a simple photographic solution. With a controlled palette of blues and yellow this dusk shot of the Orstad and Frøyland Church just south of Stavanger speaks volumes about the atmosphere the architects Link Arkitekter have created.

A sophisticated private residence nestled in the Fjords outside of Bergen, Norway. The contrast between natural wood cladding, glass and metal adds a dynamic energy to the project.

Sometimes even we can’t resist a sunset shot!
Ben Adams Architects have designed this compact living space to maximise the visual relationship to the beautiful surrounding landscape of the Thames. We especially love the bespoke design for the large terrace door, perfect for those summer garden parties, when it’s not raining in London!
Chiquet is a detached house replacing an existing smaller dwelling on the banks of the River Thames in Weybridge. It is located in the green belt within the river floodplain and is part of a local community called Hamm Court. The design proposals reflect the requirements of green belt policy and local policy concerns.

After a long day of photographing at the new Bergen Law Courts we captured this shot. The metal cladding really came alive as light levels dropped. The project was designed by Terje Grønmo Arkitekter and has divided opinions in the architectural community of Bergen. What are your thoughts?

With only a day’s notice we found ourselves on a turbulent plane ride heading over the Arctic Circle to Europe’s northernmost cathedral! The Cathedral of the Northern Lights (Nordlyskatedralen) is inspired by the Aurora Borealis and evokes the poetry and mystery of this natural phenomenon.
Icy cold winds of -15C rolled in over the mountains as we photographed this exciting structure. Having spent 3 months in 2010 photographing over 200 religious structures in Southern Africa, you could say we were well qualified! That project can be viewed here: Structural Divinity
The cathedral’s coiling body and spire stretches 47m towards the heavens with a titanium-clad structure. This is Norway’s newest and most dramatic church. The project is due to complete during May, 2013.
Alta commune in the north of Norway launched a design competition which LINK Arkitektur responded to with a robust concept and a clear symbolic idea – “the coiling structure’s dynamic, two-directional movement represents the relationship between God and Mankind, and Mankind and God. A space for quiet prayer and worship is located in the eye of the coil”. LINK won the design competition together with Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects, who were invited to participate as part of the design team by LINK.
In addition to the nave, which seats 360 people, there is also a vestry, cafe, lecture hall, church offices and a youth centre.
Building cost: $ 20,528,600 (NOK 120 million)
Perhaps next time we’ll find time to visit the ice hotel and play with some Huskies!
